Cat Supplies & Accessories
Petland Smithville offers valuable information on caring for your cat and adopting a cat or kitten that is right for you. We have a wide selection of products for kittens and full-grown cats alike. From premium cat food like Orijen and Tiki Cat to Science Diet, we offer everything you need to care for and even spoil your “baby.” We offer all the products you will need to meet your pet’s four basic needs.
Behavioral Needs
TOYS: Cats are natural predators and need to hunt. Toys provide interactive (kitten & owner) and passive (kitten alone) stimulation. We recommend 4 – 6 toys to be interchanged regularly.
HARNESS/COLLAR & LEAD: Necessary for identification tags, and keeps kitten under control and safe. Use a cat safety collar if kitten will be outside.
BELL COLLAR: Alerts birds and other animals of kitten’s presence. Alerts you of your kitten’s whereabouts.
CAT FURNITURE: Provides your kitten with a place to perch and scratch. Helps protect household furniture.
SPRAY CATNIP: Use to attract kitten to cat furniture.
CAT REPELLENT: Keeps kitten away from household furniture and off-limit areas.
CAT TREATS: Rewards behavior during training.
Maintenance Needs
SHAMPOO: Tearless kitten shampoos are gentle enough for frequent use. Never use human shampoo – it has inappropriate pH levels and is made for human hair and skin.
COAT CONDITIONER/CRÈME RINSE: Especially important for long-haired breeds, these products reduce matting and tangles.
HAIRBALL REMEDY: Will help pass and prevent hairballs.
BRUSH & COMB: Good brushing habits keep your kitten’s coat healthy and reduces unwanted shedding and matting. Great socialization activity.
SHED REDUCER: Start with quality food and add food supplement to reduce shedding, if needed.
NAIL CLIPPERS: Keep nails short and dull, helps stop scratching. Start nail trimming habits early and keep nails short and smooth on a regular basis.
STYPTIC POWDER: Will stop bleeding quickly and relieve the pain if a nail is cut too short.
LITTER PAN AND HOOD: Establishes the proper place for elimination. We recommend one cat pan for every cat at home. A hood will reduce odor and mess, and provide privacy.
LITTER DEODORANT: Helps manage litter pan odors.
KITTY LITTER: There are many options designed for ease of cleaning, length of use, and odor reduction.
LITTER PAN LINER: Make cleaning much easier, protect litter pan and reduce odors.
STAIN AND ODOR REMOVER: Enzymatically breaks down organic stains that attract the kitten to the same areas.
FLEA & TICK PRODUCT: Prevents and eliminates flea and tick outbreaks.
LITTER SCOOP: Cleaning the litter pan regularly will prolong the life of the litter and reduce odors.
Nutritional Needs
PREMIUM GRADE KITTEN FOOD: Cats are obligate carnivores. A high-quality food will help ensure proper nutrition, quality ingredients, less stool volume, healthy skin and coat, and less litter pan maintenance.
VITAMIN SUPPLEMENT: Ensures balanced nutrition, especially important in kittens and pregnant or nursing cats.
Environmental Needs
FOOD AND WATER BOWLS: Containers for kitten to eat and drink from. Stainless steel and ceramic are the most durable and hardest to tip over. Cats love fresh water and recirculating filtered water dishes are a great way to provide this.
CAT BED: A comfortable place for your kitten to sleep and rest.
IDENTIFICATION TAG: Assists in recovery, if kitten is lost.
TRAVEL BAG: For transporting your kitten to and from the vet and other travel needs.
